Finding their guy

NORMAN, Okla. — The Sooners missed on major target Max Browne and before that missed on target Tyrone Swoopes, but the third time's the lucky charm in their chase for a signal caller.

Colleyville Heritage HS quarterback Cody Thomas has committed to the Sooners, he confirmed to Thursday morning.

"Yes," Thomas said in a text message verifying the rumors.

OU cut off its recruitment for a 2013 quarterback Wednesday afternoon, and now everyone knows why: it finally found its quarterback.

Thomas received his offer back on May 7 and it took only 10 days to make the decision afterwards.

He also earned offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida International, Michigan State, Mississippi, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU, Texas Tech, USC, Vanderbilt and Virginia in addition to OU, so 16 offers total.

Most of those came after he threw for nearly 3,400 yards and 36 touchdowns his junior season in 2011, completing 259-of-424 passes (61.1 percent).

Thomas becomes the seventh commit for the 2013 class, joining running backs Keith Ford and Greg Bryant, defensive ends Matt Dimon and D.J. Ward, offensive tackle Dalton Rodriguez and cornerback Stanvon Taylor as Sooner pledgees.
