May 13, 2012—OU 12, Baylor 6
There's a set of five victories to choose from against No. 5 national seed Baylor, and OU was 7-0 against the nation's top 11 heading into Super Regionals, but this one has to take the cake. Not only did the Sooners win the series against the Bears, but this game three victory helped them complete a three-game sweep that completely secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament. And they did it how they hadn't for a majority of the year: with their offense. The Sooners poured in 12 runs for their highest output of the season at the time, and that finished third to just two other games down the stretch, including 13- and 14-run affairs against Samford and Appalachian State, respectively. It was one of just six times all season OU managed double digit runs, and it did so on 15 hits against one of the best pitching staffs in the nation. Second baseman Jack Mayfield led the team with his 3-for-4, four RBI performance on a day that should certainly be remembered in 2012 OU baseball history.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's version of the postseason breakdown series.
