May 6, 2012—OSU 3, OU 2
For the second year in a row, the toughest loss of the year came at the hands of Bedlam Rival Oklahoma State. Though it eventually became the turning point in the season, it was also the low point of the season. At the time, it seemed unlikely that OU would make it to the postseason yet again and extremely unlikely, at that, that OU would make it to Super Regionals and win 40 games for the fourth straight season. That's because the Cowboys stabbed the Sooners in the heart by plating a late run to win it. Right fielder Cody Reine fielded a fly ball very close to the foul line with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth, allowing OSU to score that run and make it 3-2 on a sacrifice fly. Afterwards, head coach Sunny Golloway said the Sooners weren't going to "cry over spilled milk" about the way the selection committee might then look at them at that moment, they would take care of finals week and bounce back against Baylor. Following that heartbreak against OSU, they did that. But on this day, it was an extremely tough loss to swallow.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's version of the postseason breakdown series.
