Meeting the team: offensive player No. 4

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated now presents the fourth day of the newest SI feature.

Player: Adam Shead

Hometown: Cedar Hill, Texas

Class: Redshirt sophomore

Height & Weight: 6-foot-4, 314 pounds

Likely position on fall depth chart: Backup left guard

The rundown: Though he's not going to be in the starting rotation, Shead has his share of experience throughout his first couple years at OU. After redshirting in 2010, he started five games at the left guard position when starter Gabe Ikard shifted to center as the starter there, Ben Habern, was injured. Shead played in 10 games total and ended with 62 knockdowns. He recorded at least 10 knockdowns in three contests, including a season high of 14 in a heartbreaking 45-38 loss at Baylor.

Expectations for 2012: Shead will see a good deal of playing time with the tempo OU runs offensively. There's no guarantee as far as the status of all the guys on the offensive line at any particular time, so he could still shift into a starting spot at some point. The former No. 7 offensive guard in the 2010 recruiting class will be looked at for depth on what figures to be one of OU's most stout offensive lines in recent years.
