Meeting the team: offensive player No. 7

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated now presents the seventh day getting you acquainted with the team.

Player: Tyler Evans

Hometown: Strafford, Mo.

Class: Senior

Height & Weight: 6-foot-5, 304 pounds

Likely position on fall depth chart: Starting right guard

The rundown: Another key piece of OU's veteran offensive line comes in the form of Evans, a 2011 honorable mention All-Big 12 selection by the Associated Press and coaches. Evans has started the last 23 games of his career dating back to his sophomore year and 27 games overall. That included 13 last season in which he recorded 77 knockdowns on 768 snaps. He actually had more knockdowns the season before when he managed 81 while consistently grading out high at interior O-line.

Expectations for 2012: The "sloth" will undoubtedly be an every week starter and pivotal force on this offensive line. He'll have to anchor the right side of the offensive line and will be right there in the All-Big 12 discussion right again, possibly just out of the first team, which could likely feature both left guard Gabe Ikard and center Ben Habern. The Sooners will look to him as well as others to shore up their run game up the gut and the run game in general. That's been a big focus in the offseason and he plays an important part in improving that part of OU's offense.
