Player: Nila Kasitati
Hometown: Euless, Texas
Class: Redshirt freshman
Height & Weight: 6-foot-4, 285 pounds
Likely position on fall depth chart: Backup guard, center
The rundown: Kasitati quickly made a big splash on campus last fall when he broke out the "haka" dance in front of his team during fall camp. He brought some flavor to the Sooners, and in the process, redshirted and picked up a lot along the way. Kasitati has actually moved into the interior offensive line after doing some damage as a three-star prospect, 38th ranked tight end and 77th overall player in Texas coming out of high school. He caught 10 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown his senior year before making the move.
Expectations for 2012: The coaching staff tried him out at center some in the spring and it worked quite well. Kasitati showed his ability to step in and pick up snapping duties with the second team behind Gabe Ikard (starter Ben Habern was injured). So, he likely sits as the third guy there along with Austin Woods, the long snapper who's still recovering from lymphoma. He could also fight into the right guard rotation, so expect to see more of the athletic, animated specimen this year. His improvement has been significant in a number of areas.
