Meeting the team: offensive player No. 13

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated now presents the 13th day getting you acquainted with the new team.

Player: Taylor McNamara

Hometown: San Diego, Calif.

Class: Freshman

Height & Weight: 6-foot-5, 235 pounds

Likely position on fall depth chart: Backup tight end

The rundown: OU got a bit of a wildcard tight end on Dec. 28 of last year when it secured McNamara's verbal. Though just a three-star recruit, McNamara has shown extreme flashes of potential, including becoming a U.S. Army All-American. He has a chance to become a really good tight end at OU with his pass-catching ability if he can just become a better blocker. But that will certainly come with time, starting this upcoming season.

Expectations for 2012: McNamara won't be the starter, but he'll definitely have a chance to get some reps this year. He got a head start in the spring when he enrolled early and went through spring ball to absorb the system. Because of that, he's much further along than he would have been otherwise, and that will likely put him on the field in some situations in 2012. This is a guy that could really have a sophomore jump after his first season.
