Meeting the team: offensive player No. 18

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated now presents the 18th day getting you acquainted with the new team.

Player: Marshall Musil

Hometown: La Crosse, Kan.

Class: Redshirt junior

Height & Weight: 6-foot-2, 236 pounds

Likely position on fall depth chart: Backup fullback

The rundown: Since joining OU as a 2008 Kansas first team All-State selection, Musil has redshirted, played fullback in a reserve position and served as a member of the special teams unit. He had three carries for 11 yards while playing seven games his redshirt freshman season. Then, Musil had a more extensive role last year despite not getting any carries. He played in 10 games on the special teams unit and recorded tackles against Baylor and Iowa State.

Expectations for 2012: Musil's role should be just about the same this year. He'll have a nice spot on the special teams unit, while also being expected to back up Trey Millard. But with Millard's increased role in the rushing attack and the other running backs that will get the ball, Musil won't likely get any type of offensive production thrown his way. Still, he's the backup should anything happen to Millard. Additionally, Aaron Ripkowski will take some snaps from him by working in the Belldozer formation.
