Meeting the team: offensive player No. 21

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated is nearing the end of the offensive side, presenting day 21 now.

Player: Kameel Jackson

Hometown: Arlington, Texas

Class: Sophomore

Height & Weight: 6-foot, 195 pounds

Likely position on fall depth chart: Backup receiver

The rundown: Jackson is still suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules committed back in early May, but he won't be out long. Still, he's the only one of four out of wide receivers Trey Franks and Jaz Reynolds and defensive back Quentin Hayes, plus himself, that is guaranteed to return. He initially tweeted before the suspension surfaced that he was transferring to Texas A&M, then rescinded those comments and said he was staying. Prior to all that, he contributed with 12 catches for 165 yards, including a long of 24 against Iowa State in 2011 as a true freshman.

Expectations for 2012: He's right there close to the starting lineup depending on the length of his suspension and the status of incoming junior college transfer Courtney Gardner, who still has to pass a couple of classes. Jackson started a pair of his 11 contests last season and could easily slide into that spot again in 2012. Regardless, when he returns he'll be expected to step up his production from the previous year and contribute in the absence of the others.
