Player: Chuka Ndulue
Hometown: Dallas, Texas
Class: Redshirt sophomore
Height & Weight: 6-foot-3, 256 pounds
Likely position on fall depth chart: Backup defensive end
The rundown: Ndulue played sparingly at D-end last year behind starters Frank Alexander and Ronnell Lewis and reserves David King and R.J. Washington. He recorded three tackles while seeing action in seven contests. He picked up a career-best two tackles in a contest against Ball State and had his other against Texas Tech. Ndulue then progressed in the offseason and had one of the nicest plays in the Red-White spring game when he acrobatically batted down a ball at the line of scrimmage to go along with a tackle on that day.
Expectations for 2012: He should see a major increase in playing time with King and Washington moving into the likely starting roles and the door wide open after that for reserve spots. Geneo Grissom has shifted from defense to the offensive side of the ball, so that takes another player away from the competition. Look for Ndulue to really make some improvement in valuable game experience at times this year just in time to get him prepared for a much larger role in 2013.
