Meeting the team: defensive player No. 3

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated now presents the third day getting you acquainted with the defense.

Player: Rashod Favors

Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas

Class: Redshirt sophomore

Height & Weight: 6-foot-1, 250 pounds

Likely position on fall depth chart: Backup defensive end

The rundown: Favors played in just one game last year, the fourth game of the year when OU hammered Ball State 62-6. Outside of that, he was basically a depth player at the linebacker position after arriving as a three-star prospect back in 2010. He has since shifted from linebacker to defensive end as Geneo Grissom has moved to the other side of the ball.

Expectations for 2012: As mentioned, Favors moves from a backup backer to reserve defensive end. That's where he'll probably stay this year with the depth, including starters David King and R.J. Washington, along with Chuka Ndulue and JUCO transfer Chaz Nelson. From the onset, it's hard to see him getting a lot of valuable playing time behind those guys. Still, the depth he provides is crucial.
