Sooners tabbed to win Big 12

NORMAN, Okla. — The school who has won the most Big 12 Conference football titles is picked to win it again.

This year's Big 12 Football Preseason poll has been released, and OU is predicted to win its eighth Big 12 Championship.

The Sooners received 32 of 41 total first place votes and 396 points overall to get the top spot, while West Virginia snagged seven to sit in second with 339 points.

There was a drop off from there, with Texas, Oklahoma State and TCU rounding out the top five at 291, 267 and 260 points, respectively. Out of those, TCU proved to be the only one with a first place vote.

Kansas State was close behind in the sixth spot with the final first place vote and 257 points.

Baylor, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Kansas State finished off the polls in the seven through 10 places.

Dating back to 1915, the year in which OU began conference play, it has averaged a league title every 2.2 years, meaning its last championship in 2010 historically puts it on pace to win this one.

The Sooners have won the Big 12 in all even years of the new millennium so far, plus 2007, making for their seven titles.

Oklahoma State claimed its first Big 12 Title last season when it finished 12-1 with a Fiesta Bowl victory over Stanford.

Head coach Bob Stoops, quarterback Landry Jones, center Ben Habern and cornerback Demontre Hurst and the rest of the conference teams will now convene in Dallas July 23-24 to unofficially kick off the 2012 season.
