Brown a transfer option for OU?

NORMAN, Okla. — The dominoes have started to fall for Penn State University since the NCAA laid down the hammer, and the Sooners could now be in on the latest wave.

Multiple reports surfaced late Tuesday evening that the Sooners are in contact with wide receiver Justin Brown.

But the 6-foot-3, 209-pound senior wide out has yet to officially confirm that with Sooners Illustrated as of this moment.

Still, every part of it makes sense.

Three Sooner wide receivers were suspended indefinitely back in early May for a violation of team rules, including Jaz Reynolds, Trey Franks and Kameel Jackson.

None of those three are on the current roster and none have been reinstated to this point, with head coach Bob Stoops' decision on that slated for Wednesday.

Additionally, JUCO transfer Courtney Gardner did not fulfill the academic requirements and must redshirt while attending Sierra for a semester before arriving in January.

That leaves Kenny Stills as the only active receiver who caught a pass for OU in the 2011 season.

So, with the ruling that a Penn State transfer could leave and be eligible right away, plus OU's necessity at the position, it's very likely that there has been some contact there, although it's unconfirmed.

In Penn State's two-quarterback spread offense, which also featured star running back Silas Redd scampering for more than 1,200 yards, Brown still managed 35 catches for 517 yards and two touchdowns last season.

That ranked him second on the team only to Derek Moye.

Because of that, he's seen as a guy that could step in and make an impact in his final year at OU should he make that move.
