Player: Javon Harris
Hometown: Lawton, Okla.
Height & Weight: 5-foot-11, 206 pounds
Likely position on fall depth chart: Starting strong safety
The rundown: A lot of Sooner fans have unpleasant memories of Harris getting roasted during the shocking 41-38 Texas Tech upset loss last year. But he's back to avenge those struggles this year, coming off a season in which he did record 47 tackles. The former Lawton MacArthur product picked off three passes, forced a pair of fumbles and had equally as many pass breakups to go along with a fumble recovery and tackle for loss. He was the Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week after recording two of those interceptions in a contest against Florida State. Harris has started eight games in his career--all of those came last season--and played in 31, including all 13 last year.
Expectations for 2012: Look for him to be way more sound defensively this season just because he's going to be put in better situations. Defensive coordinator Mike Stoops made that a focal point with all his players when he arrived in the spring, but especially with those in the secondary. Stoops said he's looked at the film and all the mistakes were really minor, so expect him to make those changes and have Harris as a much better player this time around. He should again come up with some key plays, including some big interceptions.
