Meeting the team: defensive player No. 24

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated now presents the second-to-last day of this getting you acquainted special.

Player: Lamar Harris

Hometown: Gilmer, Texas

Class: Redshirt senior

Height & Weight: 6-foot-1, 186 pounds

Likely position on fall depth chart: Starting corner

The rundown: Out of everyone on the defense, Harris might have stepped up the most during spring ball. Defensive coordinator Mike Stoops talked over and over about his progress and emergence into a starter on this group. He showed some of the reasoning behind that with a solid performance in the Red-White game when he picked up four tackles. He's easily the most inexperienced cornerback that will be in this starting rotation, without a single starting so far in his four years. Harris has seen action in 13 games, mostly in a backup corner and special teams role.

Expectations for 2012: Harris' role can most accurately be stated as providing a fifth viable starter for this rotation. Along with Aaron Colvin and Demontre Hurst, the Sooners can really have a good corner group if he steps up like he's expected to. He should easily record all of his firsts this year statistically, including tackles, pass breakups and perhaps an interception or two.
