Okotcha parts ways with Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. — Another Sooner has left the team, this time on the defensive side of the ball.

Just a couple weeks after offensive lineman John Michael McGee elected to return home and forego his football opportunity at OU, redshirt freshman cornerback Bennett Okotcha is no longer on the roster and not with the team anymore.

Okotcha, who made a surge during the offseason but sat out during spring ball with a shoulder injury, was not climbing the depth chart as expected.

Starters Aaron Colvin and Demontre Hurst, along with backup Lamar Harris and likely even newcomer Gary Simon all fought in front of him.

Before arriving at OU, Okotcha emerged as the 42nd ranked corner in the 2011 class and a three-star prospect out of Coppell (Texas) HS.

He never saw a down for the Sooners.
