RECRUITING: Houston OL high on OU

Houston, Texas OL Tyrone Byrd says he's still wide open, but speaks highly of the Sooners

TYRONE BYRD, OT, 6-5, 265, 5.1, Sugar Land (HIGHTOWER HS), TEXAS:

JH: How is your summer going?

TB: "My summer is going pretty good. I went the Miami camp, where I was voted the OL MVP. I also went to Oklahoma State's camp and TCU's camp. I did very well at both of those camps and the coaches were very impressed with my abilities."

JH: How are your offseason workouts going?

TB: "They have been going real well. Our school does a speed and conditioning program and it has been paying off. I can see the results of those workouts already. I weight about 255 and my bench is still about 300 pounds."

JH: How many teams have offered you at this point?

TB: I have been offered by UCLA, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Colorado, Colorado State, Pittsburgh, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, Houston and many others."

JH: What is the latest in recruiting?

TB: "It is still pretty much wide open. Right now I really don't have a top five and it seems to change on me every day. I am going to wait until I am ready to take my official visits before I settle on a top five."

JH: What do you think about OU at this time?

TB: "Everything I think about Oklahoma is all positive. I love their rivalry with Oklahoma State and I love their whole environment at Oklahoma. If I do decide to stay close to home Oklahoma would be one of my top schools."

JH: How about OSU?

TB: "I love the coaching staff at Oklahoma State. They are fun to be around and they have recruited other players who I have played against. Those players have nothing but good things to say about them."
