Sooners stand in at No. 9 in initial BCS

NORMAN, Okla. — Just three weeks after dropping a crucial contest to Kansas State, the Sooners have reeled off a pair of impressive victories and that has put them inside the Top 10 in the inaugural 2012 BCS Standings, which place them at No. 9.

They stand in there just ahead of USC, who sits in the No. 10 spot.

Ahead of them, the Top 5 reads Alabama, Florida, Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame, in that order.

LSU, the highest one-loss team, comes in at No. 6, with South Carolina and Oregon State serving as the final two teams in front of the Sooners.

OU's No. 9 ranking makes for the 85th time in 110 weeks in which it's been ranked in the BCS era.

The Sooners also have the most weeks ranked inside the Top 10 with 67.

Though they are outside the Top 5 and No. 1, they also lead that category with 48 and 20 weeks ranked there, respectively.

OU will put its No. 9 ranking again to work when it hosts Kansas at 9 p.m. Saturday at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
