Signing as a Sooner: No. 3

NORMAN, Okla. — The first in-state signature comes in with a wide receiver at the third spot.

Signing Time: 7:33 a.m.

Scout.com Ranking: Three-star

Signee: Jordan Smallwood (S—6'2"/192)—Ranking as the No. 110 overall receiver prospect out of local Jenks HS, many would expect him to need a lot of improvement, but the fact is he actually has a nice collection of skills. He has great hands, more than adequate size and is extremely disciplined in his route running. By the time his career is all said and done, there's a good chance people will forget he was a three-star prospect entering Norman.

What he's coming into at the position:It's quite the different situation from this time last Signing Day. With Kenny Stills as the lone returning starter and receiver with a catch from the previous season, the Sooners were on a bit of a scramble to find guys to catch the ball. Fortunately, Jalen Saunders and Justin Brown eventually both transferred in, smoothing the process with four eventually newcomers. This time around, experience is not expected to be an issue at all with Saunders, Trey Metoyer, Durron Neal, Sterling Shepard and even Jaz Reynolds—he was suspended all of last season—coming back. So, it's hard to see anything other than a redshirt for Smallwood unless he gets serious time on special teams.
