Head coach Lon Kruger and the Sooners are out east for the NCAA Tournament, and they got some other good news from out east Thursday.
Westside HS shooting guard Frank Booker committed to the program, becoming the fourth pledge for the 2013 class, and now Sooners Illustrated provides more on the talented prospect.
Measurables: 6-foot-4, 185
Skill sets: Sharpshooter, scorer
Breakdown: Booker is exactly what this class was looking for considering OU's purest shooter is on his way out after this season. Senior guard Steven Pledger will play his final game at sometime in the upcoming Tournament, meaning OU needs another guy that can come in and drain shots from the perimeter. That is Booker's expertise. He's a talented shooter that can hit from anywhere outside and mid-range, and he's also got nice finishing ability when he gets to the rim. His presence should alleviate some of the pressure off fellow wings Buddy Hield and Cameron Clark, among others, once he becomes acclimated to the collegiate level.
Expected impact: He could immediately give OU another solid shooter and scorer in the lineup. Again, that just all depends on how fast he becomes acclimated to Division I hoops. That remains to be seen. OU will likely roll out a lineup featuring Jordan Woodard or Isaiah Cousins at point, Hield and Clark at the two and three, and Ryan Spangler and Amath M'Baye inside, so he'll provide some kind of role amongst those guys. What's paramount is replacing a pure shooter with another pure shooter, and that's what the coaching staff has done here.
