May 26, 2013—OU 7, Kansas 2
Hard to choose against yet another Regional Title victory that sent the Sooners to a Super Regional, but they've maintained that level of success. A level of success they have not maintained is winning the Big 12 Conference Tournament, which they achieved for the first time since 1997 in late May. Throw in the circumstances, with OU playing with heavy hearts for their local neighbors in Moore devastated by the tornado just days before, and it's even that much more impressive. In the contest, OU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first and poured it on some from there. That included two more in the third on team batting average, RBI and homers leader Matt Oberste's two-run smash to left and another two-spot on his ensuing two-run single in the ninth. OU rode the momentum from this one into a regional it would sweep a week later.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's version of the postseason breakdown series.
