Ricketts earns 2013 Honda Cup

NORMAN, Okla. — OU ace Keilani Ricketts put one more stamp on her storied career, winning the 2013 Honda Cup Monday night, awarded to the nation's top female collegiate athlete by the Collegiate Women's Sports Awards.

Ricketts won the honor over 11 other Honda Sports Award winners, including fellow finalists Elena Delle Donne, a women's basketball player from Delaware, and Kimberlyn Duncan, track and field star from LSU.

The two-time Honda Sports Award winner for softball makes her mark as the first Oklahoma student-athlete to take down the award.

She becomes just the third softball player to win the honor, joining UCLA's Natasha Watley (2003) and Lisa Fernandez (1993).

Ricketts, of course, helped guide the Sooners to their second national championship in program history with an incredible 35-1 record and 1.23 ERA.

She shut out 16 opponents while tallying 250 strikeouts in 238 1/3 innings.

On top of that, Ricketts also hit .379 with 15 homers and 60 runs batted in.

While she's concluded her career at OU, her softball career is not concluded as she'll compete on the 2013 USA Softball Women's National Team when the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City convenes July 11-14.
