Sooners start No. 16 in AP poll

OU begins the season at No. 16 in the AP poll and plays four opponents ranked in the top 25.

Two weeks ago Oklahoma was placed No. 16 in the coaches poll. Looks like everybody is in agreement with that as the Sooners are No. 16 in the AP poll as well, it was revealed Saturday morning.

This is the first time since 2000 the Sooners are not in the top 10 to start the season. In that season, OU started the year at No. 19 before running the table and winning the national championship.

The Big 12 conference doesn't have a school in the top 12 as Oklahoma State is the highest-ranked program at No. 13.

The Sooners play four teams in the AP top 25 with OSU, Notre Dame (No. 14), Texas (No. 15) and TCU (No. 20).

OU opponents Baylor and Kansas State were both in the others receiving votes portion. OU begins its season Aug. 31 at home against Louisiana Monroe. The game is available on pay-per-view.
