OU wide receivers coach Jay Norvell said Metoyer has been on a leave of absence from the team last week.
The Tuesday night announcement from Stoops comes on the heels of Metoyer being charged Tuesday with two felony counts of indecent exposure in Cleveland County, according to court documents. That news was first reported by Soonerscoop.com.
"Trey has not been with us since prior to the TCU game and at this time I do not anticipate that he will return to the team in the future," said Stoops in a statement.
Norvell talked of off the field problems for Metoyer two weeks ago, saying he was going through some issues.
Norvell said Metoyer was "taking a little break from football" last week.
"It's not an easy thing to play college football," Norvell said. "There's a lot of responsibilities. There's a lot of things day in and day out you have to accomplish."
Metoyer, expected to be a big contributor for OU this season, has two receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown this season.
