Spangler comes up big for OU

OU wasn't going to take Mercer lightly, and it didn't in playing one of its most impressive performances this season.

NORMAN, Okla. – It just felt like it was only a matter of time for Oklahoma power forward Ryan Spangler. He has played well this season for the Sooners but hadn't had that breakout performance.

That all changed Monday night. Spangler had a career-high 20 points and 13 rebounds in OU's impressive 96-82 victory against visiting Mercer.

Spangler had five of OU's nine offensive rebounds, continuing the trend of simply being able to anticipate where the ball is going after shots.

Spangler was also efficient from the floor, shooting 7 of 10 as OU shot 51 percent for the game while limiting Mercer to 43 percent.

As has been the case most of this season, though, it wasn't just Spangler. OU had all five starters scored in double figures.

Sophomore guard Buddy Hield had 20 points, while senior forward Cameron Clark added 19 points. Freshman guard Jordan Woodard added 13 points with six assists and zero turnovers.

The Sooners (6-1) took control of the game in the second half. OU held a comfortable 45-32 lead at the break but came out firing on all cylinders en route to holding a 31-point lead with 16 minutes left in the game.

OU is back at Lloyd Noble Center at 7 p.m. CST Thursday night against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
