Hornbeak out with broken foot

OU is off to a great start at 8-1, but Lon Kruger's squad will have to deal with its first major injury of the season.

The Oklahoma basketball team has suffered its first major obstacle of the season as sophomore guard Je'lon Hornbeak will miss the next 4-6 weeks with a broken bone in his left foot.

OU coach Lon Kruger announced the news Tuesday afternoon. Hornbeak suffered the injury in Tuesday morning's practice.

"We're very disappointed for Je'lon," Kruger said. "He battled another injury to his foot in the preseason and now this one. This will impact our team significantly while he is out."

Hornbeak is averaging 5.7 points, 2.9 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game this season. After starting 29 of 32 games as a freshman, Hornbeak has been a vital contributor off the bench and averaging 21 minutes per game.

The Sooners (8-1) host in-state foe Tulsa at 4 pm. CST on Saturday.
