Overton commits to hometown favorite

OU start reaping the rewards for its Sugar Bowl win early as Sooners nab a Scout 300 prospect for 2015 a day after upset victory.

The dream has always been for Jenks (Okla.) High defensive tackle Marquise Overton to play for the Oklahoma Sooners.

His dream became a reality Friday afternoon as he confirms he has committed to play for Bob Stoops and the rest of the OU coaching staff.

Overton, a Scout 300 prospect for the Class of 2015, has talked about being a part of OU for a long time and said Friday felt like it was the right time for him. Seeing OU dismantle Alabama in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday night didn't hurt.

"That had a little something to do with it, but I've been feeling like this for a while," Overton said.

Overton is OU's fourth commitment for the Class of 2015 and the second defensive tackle. It was imperative Overton decide quickly for the Sooners as OU defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery had made it clear he wanted to move fast with his defensive line search.

Stoops hinted this could be a huge recruiting weekend for the Sooners but most thought it would be all 2014 recruits. Overton said he is glad to have the commitment over before his senior season and said Stoops was excited when he called him this afternoon.

Overton was one of the key members of a loaded Jenks squad that went 14-0 and won its second consecutive state championship.
