OU eyes home victory

OU with a chance for a nice statement making victory with its first conference home game against Kansas.

With OU firmly entrenched in its Big 12 conference play, SoonersIllustrated.com is going to preview each of the Sooners conference games.

No. 18 Kansas (9-4, 0-0) at Oklahoma (12-2, 1-0)

When: 6 p.m. CST

Last game: The Sooners opened Big 12 conference play with a tough road victory at Texas, OU's first win in Austin since 2005. KU sputtered in its final nonconference game, losing at home to San Diego State.

What to watch for: For OU, despite having a better record, this is still a pretty big statement game for Lon Kruger and his boys.

Senior forward Cameron Clark is coming off the worst game of his season so expect him to be assertive from the start and try to get things going early.

Sophomore guard Je'lon Hornbeak returned from his foot injury against Texas. He didn't score but did register two assists in 14 minutes and should see more time as he continues to get more comfortable.

OU closes out the week with No. 9 Iowa State at home so the Sooners can add a lot of goodwill toward their claim to being a tournament team this week.

Scouting the Jayhawks: All the hype going into the season was about superstar freshman Andrew Wiggins. He has fared well in leading the team in scoring at 15.8 points per game, but the Jayhawks are still a team searching for their identity.

Perry Ellis is averaging 13.2 points per game and is leading the team with 6.5 rebounds per game. The Jayhawks also have one of the best point guards in the conference in Naadir Thorpe. Averaging 5.3 assists per game, his assist-to-turnover ratio is almost 2.5-to-1.
