Hield's career day not enough for OU

OU saw its four-game winning streak snapped in an 81-75 loss at Iowa State on Saturday.

AMES, Iowa – There's no doubt Oklahoma sophomore guard Buddy Hield was ready for Saturday's game at No. 16 Iowa State, but it took a while for some of his teammates to join him.

And in some cases, they weren't too much of a factor at all as despite another gutty effort from the 23rd-ranked Sooners their four-game winning streak was snapped in an 81-75 loss to the Cyclones on Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum.

Hield scored 18 of OU's 37 points in the first half and finished with a career-high 30 points, but his efforts were matched by Iowa State's Georges Niang. The ISU center scored a career-high 27 points of his own, including a huge 3-pointer in the final minute to put the game away.

Iowa State led 62-52 before OU made its final charge. The Sooners got the margin down to 69-68 when Hield missed a runner that would have given OU the lead. Iowa State finished strong to even season series with the Sooners.

Hield was 10-of-18 from the floor and made 5 of 8 from 3-point territory. He also had seven rebounds. But the balance wasn't there for OU (17-5, 6-3) as Isaiah Cousins had 13 points and Jordan Woodard pitched in with 10 but the bench wasn't able to contribute like it did in Bedlam.

Cousins had 12 rebounds to go with his 13 points, while Ryan Spangler had eight points and 12 rebounds. Woodard added seven assists.

The loss drops OU to third in the Big 12, and the Sooners are back in action Wednesday night at West Virginia.
