Milton earns Gatorade honor

It's either the end of a great junior season and the start of what should be a fun summer as Owasso's Shake Milton was named the Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year.

The state tournament didn't go the way Owasso (Okla.) High junior shooting guard Shake Milton wanted it to go, but he got some good news this weekend.

Milton, who has offers from Oklahoma, Creighton, SMU and Tulsa, was named the Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year on Friday.

Milton averaged more than 28 points as a junior go along with six rebounds and four assists in the leading Owasso back to the Class 6A state tournament for the second straight season.

During the quarterfinal battle against Midwest City (Okla.) High, two assistant coaches from Wichita State made the trip to watch Milton play.

Milton, who is 6-foot-4, averaged 20 points as a sophomore and helped put Owasso basketball back on the map and took his game to a different level this season.

The Sooners were his first offer as OU assistant Chris Crutchfield was so impressed with Milton that he offered toward the end of Milton's sophomore season.

Milton said he is in no rush right now and is excited for the summer AAU season. He said he currently holds a 3.94 GPA.
