The agreement goes back to when OU came to El Paso to start the 2012 season, a game OU won 24-7. The Miners agreed to come to Norman sometime in the future and the years have now been selected.
The Sooners are gearing up for major nonconference games in both of those seasons regardless of how things with UTEP pan out.
In 2017, OU will be heading to Columbus to play at Ohio State as the Buckeyes will come to Norman for the 2016 season. And in 2022, a rivalry renewed will take place in Lincoln as OU heads to Nebraska. The Cornhuskers will come to Norman in 2021.
In other news, walk-on wide receiver Austin Brown and sophomore offensive guard Kyle Marrs are leaving the program. Holder Grant Bothun tweeted Wednesday that both Brown and Marrs were leaving and OU confirmed their departures Thursday.
With Marrs leaving, it gives back one scholarship for the Sooners.
