OU wish list: Wide receiver

The wish list continues with a look at OU's top targets at wide receiver.

Things are starting to work themselves out on the recruiting trail. It's time to start looking more intently on Oklahoma's "wish list" for the Class of 2015.

Here is an idea of where OU stands in late June. The number in parentheses indicates the number of recruits OU is looking to sign at the position for the Class of 2015. The names in no way reflect OU's official board but are the best guesstimate of who OU is targeting.

With it only being the summer, all of these are with offered prospects. Later in the cycle we'll return to guessing who might deserve an offer down the road.

WR (2-3)

Committed: None.

Favorite: Columbia (Mo.) Rock Bridge's Alex Ofodile. Who knows what it means with Ofodile delaying his decision and pushing back his timeline multiple times? Could be something, could be nothing. OU is still in great standing with Ofodile, but recent interest from schools like Oregon and Michigan State have made things more interesting combined with Missouri and Notre Dame lurking for his services.

Clear Falls (Texas) League City's John Humphrey. The battle felt like it was down to OU and Baylor with the Bears coming out on top. But it seems more than ever that the Sooners are going to end up winning the war. Humphrey is developing a huge relationship with wide receivers coach Jay Norvell and seems more likely to wind up in Norman instead of Waco at this point.

Next in line: Aledo (Texas) High's Ryan Newsome. Here's another recruit who has been about as active as possible on the trail. And though most are talking about schools out west or Texas, the Sooners continue to quietly stay in the hunt. Three visits since October is a great sign, and it's clear he's a top slot target for OU.

Lufkin (Texas) Highs' Keke Coutee. Flying by under the radar right now but was one of OU's first offers at the position last summer as Norvell continues to target East Texas. A one-time Texas commit, it looks like the Sooners and Texas Tech are the two biggest options right now. Where he stands in the pecking order with Humphrey and Newsome seems to be the biggest question going forward.

On the radar: Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro's Christian Kirk. Kirk listed OU in his top 10, but it still seems awfully unlikely anything materializes. OU has sort of seen the writing on the wall and hasn't pursued as much as even Kirk was hoping for.

Pasadena (Calif.) Muir's Desean Holmes. OU's influence out west has that going in its favor, but west coast schools are going to do all they can to make sure Holmes doesn't get away. Holmes has talked highly of the Sooners despite not making a visit. Obviously a visit would go a long way toward OU being in better standing, and OU is making sure he realizes how big of a target he is.
