Sooners tabbed as preseason favorite

OU is the overwhelming favorite to win the conference, according to the media.

Baylor dominated the players’ list Wednesday, but Thursday belonged to Oklahoma as the Sooners are the clear favorite as the Big 12 preseason poll was released as selected by the media.

OU had a staggering 47 first-place votes. The only other school to receive any was Baylor as the Bears had nine.

Coming off an electrifying win in the Allstate Sugar Bowl against Alabama, it’s clear what the Sooners did in New Orleans has resonated with the media covering the conference.

In an absolute coincidence, OU has won at least a share of the Big 12 championship in every even-numbered year under Bob Stoops, including winning the national championship in 2000 and making the BCS national championship game in 2004 and 2008.

Here is the predicted order.

1. OU (47 first-place votes, 548 points)

2. Baylor (9, 508)

3. Kansas State (377)

4. Texas (376)

5. Oklahoma State (312)

6. Texas Tech (308)

7. TCU (297)

8. West Virginia (170)

9. Iowa State (121)

10. Kansas (63)
