Mann commits to Sooners

OU picked up commitment No. 9 for its 2015 class as three-star DE Kenneth Mann confirms he's with the Sooners.

Remember the anxiety some Oklahoma fans felt about defensive end recruiting a mere five days ago? It’s all gone.

The Sooners picked up one commitment Monday and have followed it up with another Wednesday as Burleson (Texas) High defensive end Kenneth Mann confirms he has pledged to the Sooners.

Mann had been on OU’s radar for a while, but it took a long time before the Sooners coaches were comfortable enough to make that offer. It officially happened last week, and all it took was getting Mann back to campus to seal the deal.

It wasn’t a sure thing that Mann was going to commit Wednesday. His mother was unable to make the trip, and OU head coach Bob Stoops was off going through the ringer at ESPN. But Mann’s relationship has always been with defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery anyway, and Montgomery was more than happy to tweet out the usual “BOOM” that follows any OU commit.

Mann, who is 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, had offers from several quality schools like Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Wake Forest, among numerous others, but it became clear how much the OU offer meant to him last week.

He visited the campus during the spring and the hope was obviously to get him back to campus before practice starts back up and seal the deal.

That, however, is a lot easier said than done with Mann because it’s not easy for him to just pack up his bags and travel. The fact he made sure he would return to OU said a lot about his interest. Even though his mother couldn’t join him, he was there with his Burleson coach, which proved to be good enough.

Mann is OU’s ninth commitment for the 2015 class and second this week. Fellow three-star defensive end Tyrell Jacobs committed to OU on Monday afternoon.

With two defensive end commitments in a span of 53 hours, it’s safe to say the fear is gone with defensive end recruiting.
