Oklahoma primed for national stage

Sooners earn a trio of Big Monday appearances on ESPN

Lon Kruger’s first year at Oklahoma was about getting back to the NCAA Tournament. It seems as though his second year will be about doing much more.

The Sooners will definitely have a bigger stage.

Oklahoma will make three guaranteed appearances on ESPN’s Big Monday broadcast for the Big 12 Conference, which was rated as the No. 1 conference in the country based on RPI during the regular season. The Sooners are tied for the second-most behind conference leading Kansas, which will appear on the network’s programming schedule four times.

The Sooners have a possibility of a fourth game March 2 against Iowa State, which also has three guaranteed appearances. The other “flex option” for that night is Baylor at Texas.

Oklahoma will appear on ESPN on January 5 (at Texas), January 19 (at Kansas) and February 9 (vs. Iowa State). All games times are scheduled for 8 p.m.

With high-scoring wing Buddy Hield and veteran big man Ryan Spangler, the Sooners are considered a contender in the Big 12 to challenge perennial powerhouse Kansas.

Oklahoma finished last season as the No. 2 team in the conference and one of the top-scoring teams in the country. The Sooners earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament before being upset by North Dakota State in the first round.
