Perine, Ross earn Big 12 honors

OU earned two weekly honors from the Big 12 on Monday with Perine and Ross getting the nod.

Oklahoma had been shut out from the weekly Big 12 honors but not anymore as a couple of Sooners running backs have put OU on the board, the conference announced Monday morning.

Freshman running back Samaje Perine was recognized as the Big 12’s Offensive Player of the Week following his performance against West Virginia.

Perine rushed for 242 yards on 34 carries and four touchdowns. He scored all three of OU’s touchdowns in the second half to help OU pull away from West Virginia 45-33 on Saturday night.

He was helped in that cause by fellow running back Alex Ross. The sophomore returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and had two returns for 131 yards in the game to earn Special Teams Player of the Week in the Big 12.

OU, now 4-0, has a bye week and plays at TCU next week.
