Sooners' commits continue push toward state championships

Even though Oklahoma isn’t in action this week, the Sooners’ commits are still fighting hard toward state championship. Here’s a quick look at how the Sooners’ current field of commits and their teams performed this week:

Rodney Anderson, RB, Katy High School – Behind a power running game, Katy advanced to the 6A Division II regional championship with a 63-20 victory against Dawson. Anderson led the way with 265 yards and six touchdowns on only 18 carries. It has been a special season for Anderson, one of the top running backs in the country. Dawson coach Eric Wells called Anderson the most patient back he’s seen. Anderson had more than 200 yards before halftime as Katy raced out to a 28-0 lead.

Tyrell Jacobs, DE, Archbishop Rummel High School – Archbishop Rummel will play Jesuit on Saturday in the Division I state semifinals.

Marquise Overton, DT, Jenks High School – Overton and Jenks will play rival Tulsa Union for the 6A state championship next week. Tulsa Union beat Jenks in the season opener this year.

Bobby Evans, OL, Allen High School – Behind 28 points in the fourth quarter, Allen rallied to win its 40th straight game and advance past the Class 6A Division I regional round with a 69-54 victory against Arlington Martin. Allen has not lost since 2012, and the team’s starting quarterback, Kyler Murray, is a perfect 39-0 in his career as a starter. Evans however, remains sidelined with a torn ACL.

Dalton Wood, TE, McAlester High School – McAlester was eliminated from the playoffs after Lawton MacArthur’s successful 2-point conversion in overtime for a 50-49 loss. Wood rushed for more than 400 yards in his final high school game and scored a total of five touchdowns, including a 96-yard quarterback draw, and threw for two touchdowns in the losing effort.
