Sooners reach highest rank in coaches and AP polls since 2009

After a runner-up performance in the Battle 4 Atlantis and a 19-point victory against SEC opponent Missouri, Oklahoma has reached No. 15 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, released Monday afternoon.

It is the highest ranking for the school since the 2008-09 season.

Oklahoma is ranked No. 16 in the AP poll, also released Monday afternoon, the highest ranking since the final poll in 2009.

“A good win, a new starting point,” Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger said after the Sooners’ victory against Missouri in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. “We’ve got to keep getting better.”

The Sooners opened the season ranked 19th, the first time Oklahoma was ranked before the season in five years.

The Big 12 had eight teams at least receiving votes in the coaches' poll and had five teams ranked in the top 21.

“There’s pride in the league,” Kruger said. “. . . As a league you take pride in everyone winning games, especially in a challenge like that.”
