The Oklahoma coaching staff has been hard at work trying to close out the 2015 class, but this week OU took a little break and offered some top talent for the 2016 edition.
Here is a short breakdown of the quartet of offers during the week.
Wilson (Washington, D.C.) High RB Abdul Adams
The first sign of Lincoln Riley making his imprint with OU’s future classes. Adams committed to East Carolina in April in large part because of the relationship formed with Riley. He decommitted once it became clear plenty of top schools were going to start flocking in his direction.
Adams has offers from schools such as Michigan State and West Virginia, among several others, but this feels like a scenario where if OU can get Adams to campus, this is going to be locked up for the Sooners.
His interest continues to rise with each passing day so it will be intriguing to see what his mindset is and how OU is going to approach Adams.
Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist CB Chanse Sylvie
Sylvie was the second offer OU handed out Monday as his stock continues to soar. OU has made a concerted effort to become a factor in Louisiana, and this offer to the three-star prospect is another indicator of what the Sooners are trying to do.
He has the size OU has been looking for with its cornerbacks but obviously nothing means too much until OU is able to get him in for a visit.
Houston Alief Elsik MLB Dontavious Jackson
Put this in the category of finally for OU. Jackson, ranked No. 4 at middle linebacker and No. 138 in the early Scout 300 for 2016, is easily one of the best linebacker prospects in the country.
OU first started to make contact with Jackson during the fall and a lot of people were waiting for the offer to happen right then and there. It didn’t, and a lot of other offers have come Jackson’s way.
When the Sooners finally made it official Tuesday, it gave Jackson 18 offers and that number has increased since Tuesday. He said he is hopeful to make it to one of OU’s junior days although he’s not sure which one.
Jackson is great friends with fellow Houston native Ogbonnia Okoronokwo. Obo and Jackson communicate a lot via Twitter, and it’s clear their friendship is definitely an asset for OU in pursuit of this coveted prospect.
Houston Westfield WR Tyrie ClevelandCleveland, in the preliminary Scout 300 as well, was offered by OU late Thursday night. He is committed to Texas A&M, but he has been picking up one big offer after another in the last couple of weeks.
