A winter storm hit the area late Sunday night and all day Monday, and the best guess is all the Oklahoma coaches could do was sit around and watch tape.
Because by the time Tuesday concluded, the staff had made seven offers in one day. Six offers to 2016 recruits, four to Scout 300 prospects and one to a 2017 offensive lineman ready to blow up in recruiting.
Here is a breakdown of all the offers.
Cocoa (Fla.) High DB Chauncey Gardner (No. 97 in Scout 300)
Gardner, a one-time Florida commit, has seen his recruiting pick up in the last couple of weeks. Some view him as a corner, while Scout currently has him as the No. 5-ranked safety in the country. Florida State also recently added its name into the mix for Gardner.
Los Angeles Loyola WR David Long (No. 230 in Scout 300)
OU outside receivers coach Dennis Simmons continues to hit Cali hard since taking over at OU, and Long is another one of those offers. Schools like Oregon and UCLA have already offered Long so too early to know what impact this offer will make going forward.
Madison (Miss.) Germantown DB Nigel Knott (No. 252 in Scout 300)
OU has been able to have some success lately in Mississippi, and the Sooners are going to try their luck once again. It won’t be easy as not only are the two in-state powers in with Knott so, too, is Alabama as Knott’s profile continues to increase.
Houston C.E. King RB Trayveon Williams (No. 284 in Scout 300)
Sooners are officially in the game, and it’s a good thing OU didn’t waste any more time. Not only does TCU look like the school to beat, but Williams is all set to be at Texas this weekend. He’s only the third running back offered by OU for the class.
New Orleans Easton Charter LB Pernell Jefferson
Teammate of OU signee Arthur McGinnis, Jefferson had no idea the OU offer was coming. Linebackers coach Tim Kish called the school and offered Jefferson, who said the offer is only making him want to work harder going forward.
Waco (Texas) La Vega CB Parrish Cobb
Back to Waco go the Sooners for their second offer from the city for this class. Cobb seems like the exact prototype of what Kerry Cooks wants to do in the secondary. Baylor has already offered, but OU did get in pretty much on the ground floor with Cobb.
2017 Bellflower (Calif.) Bosco OL Wyatt Davis
Guess you could say it was a good day for Davis, who received his first two offers from Alabama and OU on Tuesday. OU continues to try to make its way into Cali, but it’s obviously way too early to even start discussing where things stand.
