OU's new assistants approved

OU's 2015 football staff is complete as the Board of Regents approved the contracts for three of OU's new assistant coaches.

A trio of Oklahoma football assistant coaches were approved by the Board of Regents Tuesday afternoon in Oklahoma City.

Defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks has been given a two-year deal with OU, earning $425,000 per year in Norman.

Outside wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons and defensive line coach Diron Reynolds were both given one-year deals worth $275,000.

Cooks is taking over for Mike Stoops and Bobby Jack Wright. Stoops has moved to coaching outside linebackers to go with being the defensive coordinator, while Wright announced his retirement in January.

Simmons replaces Jay Norvell, who was dismissed from OU in January and is now the wide receivers coach at Texas. Simmons is coming to OU from Washington State. Reynolds is taking over for Jerry Montgomery, who left OU last month for a spot with the Green Bay Packers. Reynolds has multiple years of NFL coaching experience and spent last season at Stanford, helping coach the defensive line.

Wright, though retired, is still going to make $250,000 this year as a managerial associate with the athletics department.
