OU Opening regional preview: Defense

A number of top OU targets are converging in Arlington this weekend. Here are the ones to watch on defense.

The best of the best in the Midlands region are headed to Arlington (Texas) Lamar this Sunday for the Nike Opening regional camp.

Instead of splitting Texas up into Dallas and Houston camps, all the talent is converging at one spot this year.

There will almost be too much talent to keep track of this weekend, but here are the top OU targets on the defensive side of the ball to watch.

Defensive linemen

Houston MacArthur’s Isaiah Chambers

Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus’ Andrew Fitzgerald

Houston Spring Westfield’s Ed Oliver

Hope (Ark.) High’s McTelvin Agim

Neville (La.) High’s Rashard Lawrence

Euless (Texas) Trinity’s Chris Daniels

Who to watch? Lawrence. OU had made a huge impression on Lawrence because of his connection with former co-defensive coordinator Jerry Montgomery. With Diron Reynolds now running the line for OU, it is still pretty hazy as to what Lawrence thinks of the Sooners. The five-star prospect is coveted by a who’s who in college football.

Manvel (Texas) High’s Jordan Carmouche

Burleson (Texas) Central’s Hunter Donnelly

2017 Plano (Texas) East’s Anthony Hines

Houston Alief Elsik’s Dontavious Jackson

Oologah (Okla.) High’s Jimmy McKinney

Who to watch? Donnelly. OU has already offered Jackson and Carmouche and had both of them on campus for junior day. Donnelly was also at OU’s junior day and said the visit helped change his opinion of OU. The Sooners should return in the spring evaluation period to see if they believe he is worth an offer. A great showing here is the best possible result for Donnelly to help see his stock increase.

Defensive backs

Houston Alief Taylor’s Benji Franklin

Oklahoma City Casady’s Max Wariboko

Waco (Texas) High’s Eric Cuffee

Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist’s Andraez Williams

Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist’s Rodarius Williams

South Grand Prairie (Texas) High’s Greg Eisworth

Sachse (Texas) High’s Jared Mayden

2017 South Grand Prairie (Texas) High’s Jeffrey Okudah

Waco (Texas) La Vega’s Parrish Cobb

Southlake Carroll (Texas) High’s Obi Eboh

Who to watch? Cobb. Really, though, you could make an argument for any of the players listed. This is a defensive back camp for OU targets. Mayden, Cuffee, Franklin are among cornerback offers, while Eisworth is a safety offer. One after another. But Cobb was an early OU offer when not many schools have looked his way. He tears it up this weekend, and you know that will change.
