Never one for the spotlight, Rip always did the little things. And the little things have led to the big thing as Ripkowski was chosen by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon.
Ripkowksi’s career numbers won’t impress anybody, at least on first glance. Six carries for 13 yards and three touchdowns. Eight catches for 41 yards, two touchdowns. But Ripkowski is a workhorse who is not afraid to get in the trenches and go to work.
Routinely mentioned by OU coach Bob Stoops as one of the best players of the week last season, Ripkowski was vital to OU’s rushing attack and a huge reason why the Sooners averaged more than six yards per carry last season.
Ripkowski, respected by players and coaches so much, earned the Don Key Award for OU, recognizing what a great leader he is on and off the field.
With Ripkowski’s selection, that makes it seven Sooners in two days. Three were picked Friday with the latter quartet happening Saturday.
