Another week into the spring evaluation period, and another busy five days for Oklahoma on the recruiting trail.
The Sooners attacked hard this week, including some potential game-changing offers in the secondary with kids from Texas.
A recap of the week that was.
Houston Alief Elsik DB Chris Brown
Huge offer here for the Sooners that might end up being one to circle going forward. Brown is a teammate of top linebacker target Dontavious Jackson, but we know full well OU wouldn’t offer a teammate unless it felt it was worthy. It seems clear right now OU is not the overwhelming favorite for any current secondary offer so Kerry Cooks went back to work this week. Brown is someone who has gradually picked up steam throughout the last couple of months and this might have been the perfect time for the Sooners to pick up the interest.
DeSoto (Texas) CB A.J. Green
Another potential major offer was made to Green. His interest has also been picking up steadily throughout this period as more and more Big 12 schools enter the picture. Green was pretty pumped about the OU offer, saying it has given him something to think about. If the Sooners can get Green to Norman, obviously things will get even more interesting. Never a bad idea to start having an even bigger reason to head back to DeSoto.
Plano (Texas) Prestonwood Christian linebacker Deonte Williams
A Thursday afternoon offer that definitely caught some by surprise. OU seems loaded in terms of top linebacker targets but add Williams to that mix. The Big 12 has noticed Williams, for sure, and now it seems like the Sooners want to get their way into that battle as well.
McAllen (Texas) Memorial RB Trevor Speights
The running back derby is going to be fun to watch as Texas has a few OU has its eyes on with Devwah Whaley, Trayveon Williams and Speights. A one-time Arizona commit, Speights decommitted from the Wildcats last month. Speights visited OU for junior day, and the Sooners returned the favor with a visit to Speights this week.
Arlington (Texas) Bowie OL Tope Imade
The countdown feels like it is on for when the offer is made to Imade and not if. More and more schools are entering the mix for the rising prospect, including a Michigan offer this week. Offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh returned to Arlington Bowie to see Imade this week. And if OU doesn’t offer now, well, it might just be too late as Imade certainly has plenty of options to choose from, adding Texas offer late Thursday night.
