Sooners unable to land transfers

Matt Hegarty and Blake Countess both had OU in their short lists but the graduate transfers will play elsewhere.

Oklahoma was hoping to flip the script this week as it pertains to transfers. The Sooners have seen their fair share of them in the wrong direction in the last couple of weeks and was hoping to get some help.

But it didn’t happen. A couple of graduate transfers, who will be immediately eligible, announced Tuesday their destination will not be Norman.

Former Michigan defensive back Blake Countess was expected to take an official visit to OU this weekend, but he announced Tuesday morning on Twitter he had decided to transfer to Auburn. Countess visited Auburn last weekend.

Hours later former Notre Dame offensive lineman Matt Hegarty was confirmed by Oregon as having decided to transfer to the Ducks.

Hegarty had visited OU once and the hope was of a second visit being able to seal the deal for the Sooners but didn’t happen.

Neither is a crushing blow for the Sooners, but they would have added depth and experience to a couple of position groups that sure could use it.
