It’s Wednesday so that means it’s time for another Oklahoma recruiting mailbag. Things can slow down a bit in the summer so Sooners Illustrated publisher Bob Przybylo is changing it up this week.
It’s a “take your pick” edition with four head-to-head showdowns. The obvious preface here is OU would love to have any of these eight recruits.
Take your pick:
Going to start with the battle for the junior college offensive lineman spot. After seeing Charles Baldwin come off the board, Julious and Leavitt feel like the two biggest legitimate options. Julious is a monster at 6-foot-8 and no doubt grabs your attention, but Leavitt seems to hold OU in higher regard right now. The unofficial visit was a great one and the Sooners are in good shape for Leavitt. Julious is making the rounds, but he hasn’t made that trip to Norman. As more time goes by, that’s obviously never a good sign. Edge goes to Leavitt.
OU fans would take both in a heartbeat. But with Marquise Overton qualifying, it really doesn’t feel like the Sooners are going to take more than one. Williams has some health issues so his senior season is going to be incredibly important. It has now been more than three months since that encouraging Williams visit for junior day. In contrast, Daniels visited for the second time last month and seems to really be building the bond with Diron Reynolds. OU has work to do with Williams but could perhaps go all-in with Daniels and close the show. Edge goes to Daniels.
Another all-Texas battle. This one is interesting. Eboh has visited OU multiple times and finally received the offer earlier this month. Was it too late? That’s what we’re going to find out. Cobb, on the other hand, seems to be down to OU and Baylor. He had a tremendous junior day visit and it’s clear how much he likes defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks. Is it enough to sway him from the hometown school? The Sooners are going to be at both schools for the future, too, with 2017 TE Kedrick James (La Vega) and 2017 safety Robert Barnes (Southlake Carroll). If a Stanford offer comes for Eboh, this is all moot. Edge goes to Eboh, but OU’s best shot is Cobb.
One last all-Texas battle and a good one as OU looks for a quality safety and has identified two good targets here. The problem with both is OU seems second for both of them. Michigan is in a good spot for Brown, and Texas seems like the overwhelming favorite for Acy. But the longer his recruitment goes, the better it is for OU. If OU can get Acy to campus and get him thinking crimson and cream instead of burnt orange, it could get real interesting real quick. As OU falls off a bit more with Dontavious Jackson, seems like the Sooners will fall off with Brown. Edge and most realistic shot for the Sooners – Acy.
