With the season just around the corner, Sooners Illustrated is going to take a shot at guessing who will be the 11 players who make the biggest impact for Oklahoma in the 2015 season.
This version of the OU 11 is not based on how important they are to the team, but instead is based on what their projected production will be in the eyes of publisher Bob Przybylo.
Each weekday we'll be counting them down. Without further ado, the OU 11: Best performers.
No. 1 LB Eric Striker
Striker set the tone early, stating emphatically he was returning to Norman. Coming off an embarrassing 40-6 loss to Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl, Striker could have tested the waters of the NFL Draft.
He decided immediately he was not going to go out like that. He was going to leave Norman a winner and put the program back where it needs to be.
And then the spring happened and the SAE racial video that went viral. Striker became one of the outspoken leaders for the Sooners, talking to both local and national media. It was clear who was the face of the Sooners in the spring.
He carried himself as a leader in the spring, and it hasn’t slowed down during the summer and going into camp.
His personality has come out, his enthusiasm has been there for all the world to see. Now it’s time for his production to match that bubbly demeanor.
It felt like OU got too cute with Striker last season. Instead of letting him do what he does best, it seemed like OU was trying too hard to make him a better overall player when really he’s most effective going after quarterbacks.
The Sooners won’t make that mistake this time around. Striker is going to be set loose, and OU is going to prosper because of it.
