Redshirt freshman kicker Michael Northen has left the Oklahoma football team and returned to his home in Houston. He plans on transfering to another school next year and OU will grant him his release.
Northen did not get much of an opportunity to kick this year with senior Tim Duncan on campus, but when he did he wasn't very impressive. This move appears to be one mutual consent on both sides.
Northen was a member last seasons recruiting class when and comes from Clear Brook High School in Houston where he averaged 44-yards per punt as a senior.
Now, the Sooners must sign a kicker in this class and they are currently calling a number of top kickers in the country.
The Sooners have contacted Todd Peghram of Plano West, Texas, but he is committed to Texas A&M.
