There were no additions to the #OUDNA this weekend, at least not yet. But that doesn’t mean for a single second it wasn’t a banner weekend for Oklahoma as the Sooners officially hosted around 15 recruits and unofficially hosted 40-50 more.
Taking a look at the official visitors, here are some of the more notable tweets from the weekend and their experience in Norman.
Butler (Kan.) CC OL Ben Powers:
It was clear the Sooners were going to make at least one offensive lineman offer for the 2016 class. Way too many talented recruits were on campus for that not to happen. It went to the fastest rising juco lineman in the nation. Four offers in less than a week. Up next is a visit to TCU this weekend for Powers, but it’s clear the Sooners are in the hunt.
Goodman (Miss.) Holmes WR Dre Massey:
Upgraded to a four-star prospect a day before his visit, it’s becoming clear just how talented Massey is and how big of an addition he could be for the Sooners. His connection with Lincoln Riley got OU in the door, and now Sooners doing the rest. Top three of Florida, South Carolina and OU entering weekend, but Sooners definitely made solid impression.
Durham (N.C.) Hillside RB Abdul Adams:
A bit interesting here as it was an Austin Kendall tweet of an Abdul Adams photo. Kendall is obviously the 2016 quarterback for the Sooners and sounds like he would feel right at home with Adams by his side. OU is going to land one heck of a running back. Will it be Adams?
Houston Westside DT Jordan Elliott, LB Elysee Mbem-Bosse, Duncanville (Texas) DT Marcel Southall:
That’s a whole lot of talent in one picture. It feels like OU made the most strides with Mbem-Bosse, who was not bashful about talking how much he loved his visit to Norman. No idea if it will be enough in the end, but the Sooners feel like a real player at this point for Mbem-Bosse and Southall.
Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist S Chanse Sylvie:
That’s a whole lot of talent in one picture…again. Sylvie was so crucial to get to campus just because of his infectious personality and ability to relate to the other recruits. He has been a major recruiter for the Sooners and was back to doing just that this weekend. You add in names like Chris Daniels and Caleb Kelly, and you’re talking about one all-star cast in this tweet.
Euless (Texas) Trinity DT Chris Daniels:
Daniels felt like the No. 1 target of the weekend as OU battles it out with Michigan (at least) right now for his services. Sooners have been there for a long time with Daniels and have felt like a strong contender for months. It’s not about contending at this point, though, it’s all about finishing.
Adams has been an interesting target, to say the least. After months and months of it feeling like the Sooners were out of the picture, he finally made the visit. OU is in the top four, but it’s unclear right now how many visits he wants to take and whether or not he will stray far from home.
Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West LB Caleb Kelly:
It’s a bit presumptuous to say Kelly is a lock for OU, but boy does it feel that way. This visit was a great chance for his family to get to know the OU coaches a lot more and get a feel of Norman without feeling rushed on an unofficial visit. Kelly still has two more visits left to take, but the Sooners did absolutely nothing to hurt themselves with the five-star prospect this weekend.
2017 Plano (Texas) East ILB Anthony Hines:
Never too early to be recruiting the big dogs for 2017 as this tweet features Hines and Baylor commit Baron Browning. Hines is the No. 1-ranked inside linebacker prospect for the class and has made multiple trips to Norman in last two years.
