Day in OU: Tuesday

Recapping a crazy 12 hours with the Sooners. From recruiting to football to basketball, it was an interesting Tuesday.

No other way to say it. Tuesday was one heck of an eventful day for Oklahoma. And maybe you didn’t have time to track all 12 hours’ worth of information. That’s what we’re here for.

In case you missed any of it or just want a single piece to digest it all. What happened with the Sooners on Tuesday.

*Day started with a tweet from Scout 300 commitment Chris Daniels, saying how much he enjoyed his OU in-home visit from Bob Stoops and Diron Reynolds. Daniels is still pledged to OU as of now, but it’s going to be an interesting race in the next two weeks. Texas A&M and Texas remain the schools to monitor going forward.

*There were a few recruits who confirmed official visits for this weekend in Norman. Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna CC linebacker Kapri Doucet, Sachse (Texas) High cornerback Jared Mayden and Murray (Utah) High defensive end Maxs Tupai. Mayden and Tupai are both in the Scout 300 and Doucet is No. 78 in the Scout Juco 100.

*There is confusion surrounding Houston Langham Creek wide receiver Quartney Davis. Ranked No. 90 in the Scout 300, Davis has been expected to visit OU for the last couple of weeks for this weekend. The Football Brainiacs reported Davis’ visit is no longer happening. But then less than an hour later, Davis tweeted a top five with OU squarely in the mix. The Sooners are searching for a game-changer at receiver. Davis is that. There’s no doubt it will be settled before the end of the week and both sides will know where they stand. But as of Tuesday night? It’s a guessing game.

*If it’s not Davis, then all eyes move toward Saraland (Ala.) High receiver Velus Jones, who confirmed he will have an in-home visit with the Sooners on Wednesday. Jones was once thought to be a shoo-in for the Sooners and is coming off a visit to USC last weekend. He has been committed to the Trojans for a long time although OU has made a strong push and feels like the favorite at this point.

*As OU continues to finish out its 2016 class, it might have to replace another as New Orleans Easton Charter defensive end/linebacker Pernell Jefferson confirmed he is visiting Nebraska this weekend. Jefferson has been committed since August, but it has felt like a countdown for when he will leave the Sooners.

*And one final recruiting nugget as Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly tweeted he will announce 5:30 p.m. PST on signing day. What does that mean? If it’s OU, it means having to wait until 7:30 p.m. CST to make it official. Notre Dame has made an incredible charge in the last six weeks to where this is a real race once again despite OU being out in front for nearly 24 months. It also means if it's OU, there will be zero reaction from OU coaches as 7:30 p.m. CST will be much later than the usual mid-afternoon press conference where the coaches discuss the class.

*Classes also started for the Sooners on Tuesday. Good news is every mid-year enrollee is there to be found. From the high school ranks – Austin Kendall, Logan Roberson and Chanse Sylvie. From the juco ranks – Ben Powers and Ashton Julious. From 2015 – Kyler Murray and Dalton Wood. From Penn State – wide receiver Geno Lewis. And in basketball, Austin Grandstaff is in the OU database as well.
